Krewe Aiding Trash Removal In the New Orleans Area

Please pass this on to everyone in your address book...

In spending time in New Orleans off and on for the past few months, things do appear to be progressing...however, the clean up has been a slow process.  I was hoping to gather a group or groups of people to help clean up trash thru out the city. I am not referring to the large mounds which obviously have to be hauled off w/machinery, but more to the random, out of the window trash, bits and pieces that have flown out of trucks and landed on the sides of roads or on neutral grounds thru out the city.

I know many, like myself, will only be in for a short period over Thanksgiving before heading back to their respective places til X-mas, so I was thinking we could get started over the Christmas break, or perhaps once school starts. However, if any of you do have the time one morning over Thanksgiving (maybe Monday or Friday?) please let me know, I'll make arrangements for my kids and we can get started.

Generally, I was thinking that once or twice a week we could pick one area to focus on. For example, I've noticed a huge amount of litter in and around the Carrolton/Airline Hwy exit off of I-10.  Everyone can keep their eyes out for other areas of interest and take note.

Those who have an interest, please grab a box of black heavy duty garbage bags and an old set of gloves and shoes to keep in your car trunks. We can head out in groups to these areas to bag the trash and put it in piles, making it easier for the city to come pick up (unless we can organize any husbands/male friends w/trucks who might be interested in assisting w/the clean up by hauling off our bags to dumpsters).

I realize many of you receiving this email are those whose homes/businesses were damaged or destroyed, so please take this opportunity to request assistance from us, your fellow friends. We are here to help!  I know this storm has certainly changed many of our priorities.  Please email me what you need and I will try to organize a group of people to come help you.  Keep in mind, the majority of us are not contractors, but are very good at cleaning up after people!!

If we are all planning to move back to the city, whether it's permanently or temporarily, we can all "pitch in"  to make it a nicer place!!!  Looking forward to getting "trashed" with all you guys!!!!

Take Care, Becky Zaheri
KEEP IT KLEAN!!
