Recycling:

Phoenix Recycling
is offering curbside recycling to the city of New Orleans.To make it possible, they need to have enough people sign up. The fee is $15 a month, with a $1 discount for neighborhood association members. We will lower the price as more people join. Contact your neighborhood organization for group discounts. Recycle newspapers and magazines in parking lot of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, corner of Louisiana and Chestnut, there are bins.

You can recycle your newspapers, metal scrap, cardboard, copper, paper, aluminum, and all personal electronic devices (including cell phones) at The Green Project, 2831 Marais St. [map] during business hours: Tue-Sat, 9-4. phone (504) 945-0240

Tire Disposal:
-Citizens can bring up to 20 tires at anytime to tire collections sites free of charge.
-Tires are accepted 6 days a week (Monday thru Saturday) from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
-Drop off locations: 10200 Gentilly Road, 2301 Hendsee St., 2829 Elysian Fields
-One tire per pickup date per household will be taken away the second day of your garbage collection.

Alkaline batteries can be dropped off for proper disposal at the City Sanitation department’s transfer station, 2829 Elysian Fields.*

Both area Whole Foods Markets (5600 Magazine St.; 3420 Veterans Blvd., Metairie) accept discarded cell phones, empty inkjet cartridges and plastic grocery bags for recycling.*

Section 66-287...The owner, his agent or occupant, of all premises shall be responsible to take up or cause to be taken up all aggregate sweeping of garbage, trash, litter, grass cuttings, leaves and other waste materials from the premises, sidewalks and abutting property, including the space beyond the curb line in front, extending 1-1/2 feet from the curb line into the street or roadway and in the rear and along side thereof such premises owned or occupied so that such sweepings shall not under any circumstances reach the drains, gutters, streets or roadways. The owner, his agent, or occupant shall be responsible to have all sweepings placed into containers sufficient to prevent such sweeping from being scattered by the wind and placed out on the days designated for collection.
